This year, Cinema Under the Stars returns to Plovdiv for the sixth time in a row. The screenings will once again take place in open park spaces throughout the city – Mladezhki Hill, Raycho Kirkov Park (in the Kyuchuk Paris district), Kamenitsa Park, Rotary Park, Lauta Park, Ruzha Park, Proslav Park, Ribnitsa Park and Kamenitsa Park.
Viewers will enjoy 15 very interesting, FREE screenings, starting with the Bulgarian comedy film Brunch for Beginners on June 17th at the Mladezhki Hill meadow. In it, sincere laughter and bitter tears alternate in a series of absurd situations and culinary disasters. And the big question remains: is the pursuit of the perfect image worth it or does the recipe for true happiness lie somewhere else?
The selection includes 6 more Bulgarian films (one of which is a co-production with Italy), 1 romantic comedy, produced by Serbia and Croatia, 2 animated films for the youngest and a biographical film dedicated to the last years of the strange marriage between the brilliant artist Salvador Dali and his tyrannical wife Gala.
Among the most impactful titles is undoubtedly One Gram of Life. It tells four intertwined stories inspired by real cases that directly confront us with the true consequences of drug use and distribution among young people. The film aims to raise awareness and warn about the dangers faced by teenagers and their families.
For the youngest, the animated films The Great Journey 3 and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be screened on two consecutive days at Rotary Park in Trakia. The Bulgarian comedies are also suitable for the whole family: Vacation 2: At Sea and Emma and Chocolate Land.
The majority of the selection includes comedies, probably because we all need more laughter and funny moments in our daily lives.
The events will end on July 30th in Ribnica Park with the dramatic title from Romania – How We Hacked the Maturas. The film tells the story of four teenagers who decide to sell exam topics online to finance their dreams, but their plan escalates in unforeseen and dangerous directions. When their business becomes successful and the topics spread, the group finds themselves in complex moral dilemmas, faces the consequences of their choices and understands that easy money leads to big problems.
All screenings start at 9:15 PM, and there will also be a short film before they start. Our advice is to bring something comfortable to sit on (although seats are provided, they quickly run out) and possibly some mosquito repellent.
